The
Republic of Moldova occupies an area between
Romania and Ukraine and is sits adjacent to
the rivers Prut and Nistru. The country covers
33,700 squares km. It is one of the smallest
countries in Europe with a population of only
4.5million, however, when size and numbers are
calculated it gives rise to a fairly high population
density.
Moldova is a multi-national state, the population
is made up of: Moldovans- 64%, Ukranians-14%,
Russians-13%, and other nationalities (Gaga Uzi,
Jews, Bulgarians, Greeks, Turks).
The most positive reforms over the last few
years have lead to a bi-sectorial economy, the
private sector provides about 50% of the GDP
(Gross Domestic Product); appearance of competition;
liberalization of prices, creation of the main
structures for market functioning (commercial
banks, stock exchange, funds/trusts of privatization
and investment; audit, leasing, consulting firms,
free economic zones etc.). All these show that
the Republic of Moldova is oriented irreversibly
towards a vibrant market economy.
The needs of the people from Moldova are rapidly
driving its economic potential, forming in time
a solid base for international exchanges and
for integration in the economic and social European
structures.
The potential includes qualified workers for
a modern economy, prepared to support and assist
in the development of all branches of the economy,
and in time establishing a more efficient exploitation
of the countries resources.
