The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) is ready to afford assistance to Moldova in elaborating and implementing a development strategy of a broadband internet access, in replacing analog television by a digital one, and other projects related to the electronic communications and informational technologies development.

EBRD representative Paul Moffat offered this proposal at the meeting with Director of the National Telecommunications and Informatics Regulatory Agency (NARSI) Sergiu Sitnic. The parties discussed the project realization “Development of communications regulation”, also the schedule of activities projected to be realized at the second half-year.

According to Sitnic, the agency is going to finish till the end of the year market analysis and to impose special obligations on main operator companies in the purpose of competition protection.

Paul Moffat said he is satisfied with project results, and added the EBRD can provide Moldova with an additional support for a revision of electronic communication law, and make it conforming to European standards.

Infotag’s dossier: The project “Development of communication regulation” was launched in October 2009. The project has been designed for 2 years with an 898.3 thousand euros budget. This is a second project of technical assistance provided to Moldovan regulatory agency. First project was supported and provided by USAID in 2000-2002.
