Inflation amounted to 2.1 per cent in Moldova in February against January 2010, and to 6.1 per cent against February 2009. Overall inflation registered since early 2010 was 4.4 per cent, according to the National Statistics Bureau (BNS).

The head of the BNS department of prices statistics, Ana Cucereavii, has said that increase in the average consumption prices was triggered by a 2.6-per-cent rise in prices for food products, 1.2-per-cent increase in prices for non-food goods and a 2.8-per-cent increase in the tariffs on public utilities.

The data do not cover the districts from the left bank of the Dniestre and Bender city.
