The Moldovan leu had a very calm reaction to the sudden depreciation of the euro verso the U.S. dollar and other currencies early this week. The leu rose by 1.7 percent in only two days. The exchange rate of the leu is established in dependence of the U.S. dollar.
The National Bank of Moldova announced a leu/euro exchange rate of 15.5308 lei per euro for Wednesday, compared with 15.7945 on Monday.
The depreciation of leu verso dollar and euro is forced a little bit. The exchange rate of 12.60 lei per dollar is not real. Also, experts say that the depreciation of euro verso dollar will not affect the trade balance of Moldova since the key exportation and importation partners are from the dollar area.
